
Ginanjar Sya’ban is a philologist and historian of Islam in the Indonesian Archipelago whose research focuses on the transmission of knowledge, scholarly networks, and classical texts in Arabic, Malay, Javanese, and Sundanese written in Arabic script (Jawi–Pegon). He is a lecturer in the Graduate Program of the Faculty of Islam Nusantara at the Nahdlatul Ulama University of Indonesia (UNUSIA) and a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII). A Ph.D. graduate in Philology from Padjadjaran University, he has previously taught at Suez Canal University, Egypt, and received training in manuscript taḥqīq (critical editing) at the Ma‘had al-Makhṭūṭāt al-‘Arabiyyah in Cairo. His major works include Mahakarya Islam Nusantara: Kitab, Naskah, Manuskrip, dan Korespondensi Ulama Nusantara (2017), al-Mukhtashar al-Hawi fi Tarajim Ba‘dh ‘Ulama Bilad Jawi (2022), and C. Snouck Hurgronje dan Wajah Islamnya (2024). Through his research and publications, Ginanjar deepens the understanding of the interrelation between philology, intellectual history, and Islamic spirituality in the context of the Nusantara.
