Alfan Firmanto is a researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) specializing in the preservation, digitization, and study of Islamic manuscripts from the Indonesian Archipelago. He earned his Doctorate in Cultural Studies from Padjadjaran University (2018), a Master’s degree from the University of Indonesia (2005), and a Bachelor’s degree in Sharia from UIN Jakarta (1993). For more than two decades, he has been actively involved in numerous research and international collaboration projects, including the Endangered Archives Programme of the British Library (2010) and Dreamsea, a joint initiative with the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC), Hamburg. His research focuses on Syattariyah Sufi manuscripts, traditional Islamic architecture, and narratives of Islamic moderation in Indonesia. His works have been published in national and international journals, as well as in several key books on the Islamic heritage of the Indonesian Archipelago. He has also participated in various workshops and summer schools in Malaysia and Leiden, strengthening his research network at the global level.
